So, after spending hours editing the FEAR NO EVIL Behind The Scenes footage, I decided to watch the film, in its entirety, on Blu. It had been awhile. And, what happens?
I'm blown away!
Despite all of the meddling with the cut by Avco, it moves me and astounds me with the quality of its look (in particular). And the performances, especially by the leads, are stellar. How the hell did we manage to bring so much quality to this show with a $540,000 budget (prior to Avco's contributing $300,000) to finish it?
It's a complicated affair, my relationship with my "first born".
While I was going through all of the print material that the film garnered, for the website, I was reminded of its relatively huge domestic, box office success. The film grossed over 8 million, domestically! And we never saw a dime!
Not a penny of it.
The deal my cousin and his hack, local yokel attorney, Carl Reynolds, made with Avco absolutely prevented us from doing so. Even after I begged them not to make that deal, predicting its doomed outcome for us, they insisted. So, instead of pocketing 2-3 million, just on the domestic take alone, we saw nothing.
And that was why, when it came time to make the distribution deals on "Lady", I made it part of my deal with the Company that those two sit it out in Rochester while myself and my crack, industry attorney in L.A. secured all of the deals without them.
The result? Close to 8 million in our pockets. Ironic, no?
In any case, yesterday, watching the film again, I found myself genuinely embracing it. And no matter what anyone else thinks, I can honestly say that I'm proud of it.
